Philippines made world and fashion history on November 29, 2012. Through the efforts ofAVA.ph, the Philippines’ premier members-only shopping site, Ayala Malls and Globe’s Tattoo Black, the Philippines snagged the world record for the most number of people to walk the runway. It was only six months ago when the previous record was set at Istanbul, Turkey with a total number of 1,967 models who strut the catwalk.
Thousands of people gathered to participate in this event from the Philippines’ top fashion models, bloggers, celebrities, upcoming fashion designers from the School of Fashion and the Arts, right down to the boys and girls next door who wanted to be part of this record-breaking event. Everyone gathered at the new Glorietta wing early in the day to make this all possible.
As early as 7:30 am, professional and community models gathered at Glorietta’s Palm Drive to sign up and rehearse with Director Robby Carmona of SAGA events and Jackie Aquino of Cal Carries. Everyone held their heads high throughout the process as they braved the Manila heat to ensure that all would go as planned. As the day passed, more and more people gathered at Glorietta for the fashion show that would put the Philippines in the record books. As the clock wound down to its final moments, the number of models shot higher and higher.
The fashion show was not only to break the world record but also to launch the newly renovated Glorietta wing. VIPs such as Jaime and Bea Zobel; Ayala Corporation’s Jaime Augusto Zobel; Ayala Land’s Tony Aquino, Bobby Dy, and Rowena Tomeldan were all in attendance to witness this historic event.
Spotted also were Katrina Angco, Geolette Esguerra, Audrey Binay and Ria Gamboa of Metro Magazine; Paula delos Reyes of When in Manila, Esther Go of Harvard Business School; Voltaire Domingo and George Calvelo of Yahoo! Philippines; fashion designer James Reyes; AVA idea-lister Bianca Araneta Elizalde; Franco Liu Eisma of Amazon Web Services; Conrad Adamos of Sifra; Christian Besler, Ruth Canillas and Pia Bernal of Kickstart; Vince Rodriguez of Tattoo Black; Patricia Ocampo, Bernadette Lindres, Matt Pardinas and Crystal Anievas of Rags2Riches.

Hosts Bianca Gonzales and Billy Crawford livened up the crowd who were all anxious to find out if the Philippines would set a new world record that night. With the Guinness official setting the rules, the fashion show began. Among the thousands who walked the runway were professional models Ria Bolivar, Brent Javier and Victor Basa, PMAP representatives Ana Sideco, Irish Ong and Angel Agustin-Co; celebrities such as Bianca Gonzales, Xian Lim, Ivan Dorschner, Geneva Cruz, Divine Lee, Sam Milby and Hayden Kho. Also in attendance were some of the Philippine Volcanoes, The Click Five’s Kyle Patrick who also serenaded the crowd.
Everyone was clad in popular local brands such as Bench, Bayo, Plains & Prints, Penshoppe, Gibi, The Ramp, Freeway, Folded&Hung and Maldita and foreign brands A/X Exchange, Marks & Spencer, Cache Cahe, Naturalizer, Florsheim, Mango, Melissa Shoes, Sperry Topsider and Skechers. As the final models strut the catwalk and everyone held their breaths to wait for the official tally, the crowd was entertained by pinoy rockstar Bamboo to ease the tension.
Guinness then came up with the official number of 2,255 models to walk the catwalk making it official. The Philippines has made another world record. There couldn’t have been a better way for Ayala Malls to launch their P20 billion investment in the renovation of Glorietta which is only the first step as they plan on renovating the entire Ayala Center.

Move to the Vibe of Glorietta is also the biggest fashion show to be broadcasted online via livestream. AVA.ph provided the livestreaming via www.newgloriettavibe.ava.ph. People from all over world watched as the Philippines once again, broke a new world record. Fashion shows are definitely more fun in the Philippines.
